One Night Only
The anticipation of Sushi Night, the Tracking premiere along with live music from Andy-6-String was living up to the hype. The bookings in the Deus café were filling faster than a pint of beer at a busy pub. The time for preparation for Tyler was draining faster than said pint in thirsty hands.
The final piece of the puzzle was put in to play with the late arrival of Andy-6-String, fresh from a Grafton recording session with Bob X (fucking, rock stars…). The 3rd piece was in play. As the sound check got under way and the movie screen was hung in place, the pressure was on Tyler to deliver on his edible promises to the good folks in Sydney. “Times a ticking, you got this mate?” a familiar voice rang out. It was Dare checking in as he does. “Yep, we got it just about covered”. That wasn’t entirely true, but we didn’t want to tip any of our cards to the man with the master plan…
Coming down to the wire is nothing new to the Deus family, some things just work better under pressure.
With everything in place and a few beers deep, we were ready for the masses to herd in. Two by two they filled the Deus show room floor eager for action. Andy picked up his new axe, plugged in and let loose two sets of slide rock-n-roll. Then, the lights went out and once again all eyes were glued to the screen. As it was now time for the ever growing (in epic proportions – at least in our opinion) ‘Tracking’ film to drop into the ocular laps of the standing room only crowd.
The Café floor stood alone as the masses watched the ‘Tracking’ premiere in the Deus show room only a few feet away. This would be the calm before the storm. After the film, the hungry and slightly inebriated crowd started to rumble like a caged bull ready to ride in a rodeo. The door flew open and it was go time…
What started out as a well thought out plan, turned into controlled chaos. With help from Greg and his café team who had been there before, (two weeks before) we knew things would be all right in the end…if we could just get to it. Tickets for sushi flooded the line like water entering a boat on rocks, Tyler was that boat. Time went past, plates went out and when all the sushi was gone, the bull was at rest. The good folk of Sydney had a full belly, a curious state of mind and ears that will ring for a bit. The night was over and well received then began again when Stefan, Matty and Lincoln took us out for celebration drinks til 4am… but that’s a whole different story…
