Temple Premiere – Noosa

After a well received screening at the House of Simple Pleasures in Sydney, the next day some of the crew jumped in van and shot up north. First stop was Byron where Woody’s Surf Shack was stoked to house a bunch of fellow surfers for their premiere. No time to waste, the boys had a date up in Noosa the next PM. Thomas Bexon and Jake and Captain Sip Sop Barber were having there official grand opening party and extended us an invite to their house warming. They know how to put on a party, this thing started at 2 in the arvo, with entertainment up to the wazoo including a surf swap, free tattoos, live music and the Sailor … View More

A Glide Guide To Sydney

We recently received an email from a bunch of friends over in Japan who run a magazine known as Glide. Their glossy pages consistently document and showcase some of the grooviest alternative surf from around the world. Last issue the guys travelled to San Fran to get a feel for the surf culture and now they have landed on our shores and asked us to show them around while in town. Sydney, more precisely The Eastern Suburbs was their port of call. So 5am on Tuesday saw us down at North Bondi where we were greeted with a bow and a salty hazed sun. We arranged to meet Pama Davies (TCSS’ up n comer) and our own James Thomson. Quickly we waxed the fresh sticks then suited … View More

DELAMINATED

DELAMINATED was the moniker we gave our vintage skate swap meet. Tongue-in-cheek as usual, like most of our naming goes. For those who don’t know, delamination is the separation of the pressed layers of plywood that are sandwiched together to create a skateboard. Not a good thing. Figuratively, you could do the mental gymnastics to arrive at the idea of delamination as a deconstruction of sorts, and apply this idea to skateboarding, its history and a swap meet revolving around it all and have it make sense. And it does. But this may have been one of the rare cases where our tongue in cheek naming conventions led us astray, because DELAMINATED was entirely too awesome to have any unfortunate … View More

The House Was A Temple

Temple is the latest collaboration between LA film maker, Jack Coleman and Dustin Humphrey. The film showcases a project which involves some of the worlds most talented and creative shapers in the industry including Thomas Bexon, Ellis Ericson, Josh hall, Neal Purchase Jr and others, offering them some quality r’n’r at the temple allowing them to shape their foamular visions, to then be tried and styled by the likes of Alex Knost, Matt Chojnacki, Matt Cuddihy, Salsa and Husni to name a few. First stop of the tour was our very own ‘House Of Simple Pleasures’. Wednesday saw a bunch of salty surfers coming from both ends of Sydney to settle in the Camperdown space for beer, pizza before experiencing 30 … View More

LA – BARSTOW – VEGAS

THE GOOD: The simple criterion of the historical LA-Barstow-to-Vegas Dual Sport ride have remained the same for the past 29 years: Follow a charted route on dual sport motorcycles to Las Vegas, starting in Los Angeles, and staying over night in Barstow. 450 miles all up, divided into two days of trails, rocks, and road. The ultimate adventure. Simple in theory; difficult in execution. We got it into our heads to carry on the legacy of the legendary Terry Pratt, an icon of the motorcycle industry. Full of years, Terry passed away back in April of liver cancer. Unworthy though we were to squire two of Terry’s Triumphs, a 1966 TR6 and 1970 T100, we were gung-ho to pay tribute … View More

Just Add Water

Water it and it will grow could be applied to the Deus ex Machina family. And if by water it you mean having had the most amazing crew of shapers, surfers, artist, musicians, film makers and so forth come through our Bali Temple, hang out, chat, ride and shape. Hell, people just doing whatever comes naturally. Then ladies and gentlemen, we have a green thumb. And sometimes something happens. Whether it be that planets align, or the light shines off it in just the right way we’re not very sure. But every now and then a group of people just jell. Bond. So it was with us and Joel & Chrystal Fitzgerald. Quicker than you can say, Brand Ambassadors, we … View More

Milan’s Love For Deus

Friday the 16th Saw The media conference in Milan for the press launch of “Deus Italy” held during the international motorcycle exhibition EICMA, which exceeded all expectations. During the night more than 1000 people joined the party, Australian beer and Italian pizza had run out faster than expected and people were excited by the Deus bicycles and motorcycles that were built for the occasion. In particular The Lips had been the star of the night with hundreds of people asking for a picture with the motorcycle and Deus branding in the background! We never saw so many artists, fashion designers, journalists, young bikers and motorcyclists all together looking into the details of the Deus x Cinelli fixed gear, cafè racers … View More

Great Scott!

Everybody has their favorite period in time. A bunch of quiff wearing diner lovers have converted a Newcastle warehouse the size of two hangers into one of the most well themed museums around. Their decade of choice was the 50s and there is no chance of forgetting as you step inside the diner where you are greeted by a novelty sized waiter. As you start to take everything in you start to build an appetite but quickly realize that the gas hobs dont work and that the girl behind the register is just there to look pretty. If you hang around the diner long enough it starts to get interesting as your attention turns to the Batman theme tune! As you walk to … View More

HELL ON WHEELS – HALLOWEEN HILLCLIMB

Meatball of Hell on Wheels fame has been propelling his particular brand of super-friendly hooliganism through the motorcycling cosmos via a series of incredibly fun events (you may remember this puppy), the latest installment being the Halloween Hillclimb at Glen Helen MX Park in San Bernardino, CA. The usual suspects all made their appearances. The Dangers of Orange Country put their manliness to the test showing up dressed as the New York Dolls, Jamie from RideApart arrived sporting proper British dentistry, and Butch Cassidy came around with his buddy the Sundance Kid to give the old hill a try. The hill at first seemed more like a mountain, with very few cresting the summit. Some early contestants equated the experience … View More

What we’re dealt

We may not all be here to make history but we can live our lives so that we create our own. Adventure is the key. Alone or with likeminded. We’ve, as a rag tag group of vagabonds, come to realise the ease in which trips away make us feel that history is in the making. Our history. Served up another astonishing morning in a village on the edge of the world with mates all super keen to tally forth and do battle in one way or another. We joke smile and otherwise. Feels good to be part of something. We’re packing up stuff, as we have to move on but not before another adventure on the water. The serving size … View More
