On the night-You’re My Type

Last Sunday nights session was made a little more special than usual. Three of our favorite artists and friends, Andrew Wellman, Robert Moore and Jim Mitchell had a little shindig, ‘You’re my type’. This Typographical gallery event brought the art lovers and enthusiasts out of the wood work. Or is that ‘wood word’? Suffice to say a few verbs were dropped and nouns capitalised throughout what turned into a crazy night. A curly side bet happened mid evening, a charity auction for Deus family friend, ‘Mr Tugu,’ Phil Carroll, which saw prints from the above as well as those from D Hump going under the hammer to help him and his family. The big draw card, a 9’6″ Deus Custom … View More

Over The Nose On "Doc’s" Orders

Thomas Bexon’s been churning out numerous logs down in the “Temple’s” shaping bay this past week, the first of which was destined to Glide under the feet of our friend Matt Cuddihy. So off Matt went with his slide assistance to a point break that might of reminded him of his home break. He definitely looked comfortable on his new board… Staying out all day with just himself and a friendly bunch of sea turtles.

“From the Plane to the Planer”

No sooner than the dust settled from THOMAS BEXON last Sratchin session that we got the call… “I’m comin back boys, and I’m bringing my partner and laminater, Jake Bowrey to show us the way… And we’re down to get weird with “The Beard” here at “The Temple” From the moment the wheels hit the Bali Earth, the wheels in OUR head began to give birth… “I BRING YOU CLEAN LINES, FROM SIMPLER TIMES, AND A CLEANER WAY TO GLASS WITH CLASS” He proclaimed, much like Moses comin down from “The Mount” with “Tablets”, or in “DOC’S” case “TEMPLATES” in his hands… Jake brings to the “GLASSING TABLE” his overall knowledge of “THE ABSTACT AND NEATNESS OF EVERYTHING GLASS RELATED, … View More

"Saddle me with that!"

I don’t know if any of you have driven 800km across Java with an overstuffed back pack in the blazing hot sun but I have and it hurts like hell. If you want that windswept freedom feeling while blazing through the mountains of Malang, or anywhere for that matter, with the convenience of having everything you need, then saddle bags are for you. These saddle bags have been designed, tested and are hand made right here in Bali. They incorporate strength and durability while keeping that classic aesthetic that only leather and canvas can provide. The most pain saving feature of these babies is this; park it, pick ‘em up and take those valuables with ya so you wont have to … View More

Honda with a twist of Deus

Sunday was Custom Honda Day in Denpasar Bali so Deus threw a couple recent builds into the mix of metal and paintwork and happily walked away with a trophy. The award winning bike, the ‘Bali Bloodnok’, was recently blogged exposing it’s bare aluminium tank and raw charm to the world.  Well some bikes just love the limelight so out she went with a buddy and got amongst it at Honda’s “HOCS” 2011 (Honda Oto Contest) Custom Bike festival. There was a plethora of chromed and painted wonders awaiting judgement in  various categories, Non Fering Racer being the class that Deus found themselves in. Congratulations to the Bike building crew here at the Deus Temple of Enthusiasm. Just goes to show … View More

Thrilled to be Char Grilled

You could say that the Deus Warung of Simple Pleasure’s officially became a warung last week. Some background, Warung is the Indonesian word for restaurant.   And interesting enough ‘Simple Pleasures’ is exactly the way that Malee has solved our conundrum. Her answer to the shopping centric location is Thai style BBQ, curb side. The culinary skills of our food designer, who brought us Deus Temple of Enthusiasm’s ‘Deus Café’, were once again put to the test, though we needn’t have worried. Malee’s dishing up lunchtime inspiration direct from Bangkok, her home town. The flavours of natural coal fire, her complex concoctions of marinades, fresh ingredients and succulent cuts are blended to perfection on the grill in our outside seating … View More

“Wheels of the Sea keep US Turnin”

All Blacksmiths’ work their craft on an anvil with fire and steel, and Phil Way is no different, except his craft, turns ours! Phil way forges fins out of resin and fiberglass and I’ve seen them… And man his fins are funkier than 19 globs of Chitlins with onions and sardines on the side…. Now that’s funky! Phil stays busy by hand foiling his wave carvers to many a legend like Beau Young and Occy to name drop a few…. His company has since been bought out, but Phil’s no sell out!  Phil’s “Fluid Foils” are still 100% hand made from start to finish, and we here at “The Temple” are fortunate and proud to have a selection of his … View More

Good things come in threes

If your one to partake in some early morn’ sliding action in the lower part of Canggu then chances are you may have crossed foam paths with one if not all three of the expat artists that eek inspiration from the soda fountain waves that flow along that part of Bali’s coast. ‘You’re my type’ a joint hanging at the Deus Gallery brings Drew Wellman, Jimmy Slide and Bob X together out of the water. Little is known about what’s in store and all of them are very coy when asked. A wry smile is the most one can hope for. We’re not worried though as we reckon that three blokes that breathe art with a beer breath on a … View More
